They don't run in the background, hold a role, or take action while you're asleep. Activated Cloud runs Activated Cloud OS, an operating system built for always-on agents that actually do. The catch is Activated Cloud OS needs a computer to run on. You can run it on your laptop, but your agent dies when you close the lid. You can spin up a cloud VM, but cloud IPs get blocked on most of the sites that matter, LinkedIn, Reddit, Instagram, because they look like bots. A dedicated device on your own network, always on, browsing like a real person, is the right answer. Activated Cloud makes that setup take five minutes instead of a weekend.

You can use an Activated Cloud device like any other Linux machine if you want. Nothing is locked down. The difference is what you get out of the box. A Mac Mini ships as a general-purpose desktop: you're installing an agent stack yourself, hardening the security config, wiring up CLIs, figuring out how to manage it headlessly. Activated Cloud ships purpose-built: Activated Cloud OS pre-installed and pre-configured, NFC pairing, a proper management app, and Activated Cloud OS tuned specifically for agent workloads, all at a lower price. If you want to do the Mac Mini setup, you can do it on an Activated Cloud device too. You'd just be ignoring everything we already did for you.

No. The app lets you deploy agents and configure them with plain language. If you want to build custom agents, fork the runtime, or SSH into the device directly, you can, but none of that is required to get started.

Yes. Upload your existing config through the app and it runs as-is. You can also build new agents from scratch in Activated Cloud OS without touching a terminal, either way works.

It is one computer at five sizes. You choose how much memory it has, from 16GB to 128GB, and the price follows: $399 to $3,999. Below 32GB the models run in the cloud, which is cheaper and gives you the fastest models going. From 32GB up they run on the machine itself, so nothing you ask it leaves the building.

A single Activated Cloud device is well-suited for a small team's worth of agents, think exec assistant, research, ops, finance monitoring running concurrently. 5–10 agents is a reasonable target depending on task complexity and which models they're using. You can connect multiple devices under one account and manage them together from the same app.

Activated Cloud OS is the operating system your agent lives in — the runtime, task orchestration, tool invocation, and every surface you see, on both the Mac app and the agent computer. It's built on an MIT-licensed open-source agent runtime (credited in the app's NOTICE file), which we've extended and modified heavily — plus everything above it built in-house: the OS surfaces, setup wizard, desktop app, gateway, and skills system. The combined product isn't open source while we're in beta.

Gateway supports major cloud providers, Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and local open-weight models on Activated Cloud Pro hardware. We're adding providers continuously. Local models run on-device with no data leaving your network. Cloud models are routed through Gateway with a single bill.

Credentials are encrypted and stored on your Activated Cloud device, never on Activated Cloud servers. When an agent needs access to a service, it requests a short-lived token from the device. Your raw credentials are never passed to the agent or the model, and they can't be exposed in a cloud breach because they're never in our cloud.

Not at all. Activated Cloud is a Linux box running Activated Cloud OS, if you want to SSH in, use the CLI directly, and manage everything yourself, that works exactly as it would on any other machine. The app is a service layer built to make the 90% case easier. Everything in the app is Activated Cloud OS underneath.

Your files, credentials, and browser sessions stay on the device and never touch Activated Cloud servers. The outbound traffic is whatever your agents do themselves, API calls, web browsing, emails sent, same as if you were doing it manually. Because agents run from a real local browser on your network, they're not identifiable as cloud bots, which matters more than most people expect.

Notifications are opt-in per agent and per event type. By default you get a summary when a task completes. You can configure this per agent in the app.

Cloud model costs are routed through Gateway. We take a small transaction fee on cloud spend to cover our own infrastructure and hedging costs. You pay for what you use, not a monthly seat fee. Local inference on Activated Cloud Pro hardware runs free through Gateway.

No. Gateway is part of Activated Cloud OS, not a separate SaaS product. You were going to spend on tokens anyway. We sit at the OS layer and help you manage that spend better, taking a small transaction fee on cloud usage only.
